Palmoxylon and Gold Faux Perfume Flask
An early 19th-century 18-carat rosé gold and palmoxylon – or petrified palmwood – ‘faux’ perfume flask with stopper on a fine woven chain, France, circa 1810. This unusual fossil was formed between the Cretaceous and the Miocene periods (app. 84.9 to 11.6 million years ago).
