heart locket

A gold heart shaped pendant with a pearl suspended from it. Each side of the pendant is set with pearls and cabochon-cut turquoises. and a black and white enamelled snake coils around it. When open, the heart reveals turquoise enamel on the inside, bearing the text: ‘Ce [Se] rejoindre ou mourir,’ which translates as ‘I want to be with you or die.’ 17th century.
