A beautiful 14-carat rose gold ring, featuring a round flat orange topaz that is foiled in a cutaway setting. The gem is engraved with an intaglio that reads ‘Vivons Unis’ (Let us live in unity). The ring also showcases two kissing birds under a canopy of ribbons of stars or flowers, signifying that their love was destined to be, ‘written in the stars’. England or France, late 18th century.
