Opaline and gold necklace with girandole pendant
An ethereal Georgian necklace of 15 carat gold consisting of 36 elements with a detachable girandole pendant, all embellished with oval facetted pink opaline stones. Opaline glass, or paste, was made in Derbyshire, England, and was favoured for daytime fashion. It is a paste, or faux gem, imitating opal made of glass with a pale milky appearance which is caused by the separation of various oxides during the cooling process.
