Arts & Crafts pendant

This pendant, designed around 1900, is one of the rare examples of Scottish art nouveau that, just as in England, was called the ‘Arts and Crafts Movement’. It consists of two small elements, decorated with two stylised dragons in gold with opalescent blue and green cloisonné enamel and gold and silver ‘paillons’. The pendant is embellished with five irregular opals all set in 15 carat gold. On the rear side the pendant bears James Cromar Watt’s signature: intertwined JCW.
