damascened cufflinks
Cufflinks of steel, damascened with gold and silver with a geometrical design and leaves. Master’s mark of Plácido Zuloaga (1834-1910), Eibar, Spain, circa 1880.
Zuloaga is famous for having revived the medieval technique of damascening. Born in Madrid, Zuloaga lived and worked in the very heart of this industry. Namely, in Eibar, where the weapons of Ferdinand and Isabella were produced in the same technique in the 15th century.
