A paperweight of black bituminous limestone with pietra dura (oakstone, rosewood marble, Duke’s Red marble, malachite and red Cornish serpentine). It comes from Derbyshire, where a pietra dura industry arose in the 19th century, in part under the patronage of the Duke of Devonshire. England, 19th century.
This paperweight has a so-called cheesecake design.
