This now-rare device, an 18 carat gold champagne stirrer, is particularly associated with the ostentation of the Roaring 1920s. A stirrer was placed or stirred in champagne to reduce the bubbles. Even though in modern times the stirrer has become obsolete because it reduces the most valued and distinctive aspect of champagne; its carbonation, fine gold examples – especially this Art Deco one by Cartier – are rare and collectible.
