gold ring with blue glass and diamond

A 14 carat gold ring set with a long octagonal blue glass panel in which sits a large cushion cut diamond (app. 1.95 crt I-J), Louis XVII, European, circa 1785.

These large rings were worn by men as well as women in the time. After the birth of the Dauphine in 1785 large rings with one big center stone were called: ‘Bague à l’Enfantement’ celebrating the new Dauphine.
