rock crystal seal with pansies

A cylindrical rock crystal seal by Mellerio dits Meller in the original case, with an engraving of a countess’ crown on one side and an engraving of a pansy on the other side, the whole seal has decorations of engraved pansies and two pansies set with rose cut diamonds, one with amethysts and one with topaz, Paris, circa 1890.

The pansy symbolises ‘think of me’ derived from the French word ‘pensee’ which means thought.
