gold and silver coin brooch

An 18 carat gold brooch in neo archeoligical style set with a Philips of Macedon tetradrachm, circa 350 BC representing Zeus and a boy on a horse on the reverse, the gold mounting is decorated with foliage carvings, in original fitted case, Lucien Falize, Orfevre-Joaillier, 6 Rue d’Antin, Paris, circa 1890.

Alexis Falize began to make archeological jewellery well before 1862 when the Campana collection was shown in London and Paris. Lucien Falize was among the first to decorate his archeological jewellery with ancient coins.
