Berlin Iron Necklace and Earrings

A fine suite of ‘Fer de Berlin’ earrings and necklace decorated with foliage and trefoils. Iron jewellery, and works of art, have been made since the 18th century. It became most popular during the Napoleonic Wars, when Germans patriotically contributed their gold to support their country’s war efforts in return for iron jewellery, often inscribed with ‘Gold gab ich für eisen’ (I gave gold for iron).
